Traffi are passionate about the environment. That comes through in our day to day actions and decisions – from the use of recycled materials to carbon reduction and offsetting. From the EV charging points at our Alton HQ to the fact that the whole building runs exclusively on renewable energy. That doesn’t make us unique in any way. An eye on sustainability is essential to modern life, whether on an individual or a commercial scale.
Make no mistake, this is not about saving the planet. The planet will continue to exist even if we as a species make it uninhabitable for ourselves. At its heart, sustainability is about people – protecting lives, livelihoods, and lifestyles by making sensible decisions.
There are still those who don’t consider sustainability or the environment to be a priority, though. With that in mind, the responsibility of those companies who do prioritise it is to make the sustainable option the best choice for a variety of other reasons.
If the main selling point of a product is its environmental credentials, the market for it is immediately limited. If a product is the absolute best on the market and it just happens to also be environmentally sound, suddenly the market is unlimited and therefore the potential difference.
Applied to Traffi, if we made a carbon neutral glove that was average in terms of performance, we might sell a few to companies with sustainability as their main priority. But by producing a range of gloves that offer industry leading protection and providing all the additional support that management or glove wearers could possibly need, it becomes the sensible choice for anyone tasked with looking after employees’ safety.
We recently celebrated the milestone of 70 tonnes CO2e being avoided with a single end user – meaning a single company, not one very prolific and wasteful glove wearer. This end user also saw hand cut injuries reduced by 67% over an 18 month period. Without that outstanding safety record, it’s not certain that we’d continue to be the hand protection provider of choice and that environmental impact wouldn’t keep growing.
In summary, we’re not aiming to just provide the most sustainable safety gloves in the world. We’re aiming to provide the best, that also happen to be better for the planet than the competition.
