Hand Washing and Hand Hygiene

Hand Hygiene

With the Coronavirus lockdown easing and people gradually returning to the office, it is becoming increasingly important to understand how to safely and effectively keep our hands clean and free from germs.

Everyday life requires us to come into contact with a range of contaminated surfaces and with 80% of all infections transmitted by our hands (CDC), it is crucial we keep them clean to avoid spreading viruses, bacteria and other germs.

HAND WASHING

Hand washing is the cheapest most effective way to keep your hands clean. The soap breaks down the dirt on the skin- water then rinses the dirt off leaving your hands germ free! Without hand washing germs can easily be spread from surface to surface, including contaminating food and drink.

Follow the steps below to ensure you clean your hands properly:

  1. Wet your hands with clean, warm, running water, turn off the tap, and apply soap.
  2. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
  3. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
  4. Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
  5. Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.

Complete the exact same steps after eating, after touching potentially contaminated surfaces such as door handles or light switches, and after coughing or sneezing and using the bathroom.

HAND SANITISER

It is recommended that hand sanitiser is applied when you are unable to wash your hands, this includes after coughing, sneezing, wiping your nose or touching contaminated surfaces, however hand sanitising is not recommended when the hands are visibly soiled.

Here at Traffi we have specifically designed our own hand sanitiser, TraffiDual Protect, a water-based foam sanitiser which is proven to kill envelope viruses such as coronavirus. This sanitiser is alcohol free and is therefore non-flammable, making it easy to store and transport. Our sanitiser has been dermatologically tested and is proven to be skin friendly. TraffiDual protect has a long-lasting residual effect of up to 8 hours and due to the product being odourless it is also food safe.

But TraffiDual isn’t just for use on hands…it can also be applied to our LXT glove range ensuring you are consistently keeping yourself and others safe, and stopping the spread of viruses, germs and bacteria.
